In this short contribution Sebastiano Sabato deals with the relationship between competitiveness (and growth) and the welfare state. To the research question "Is it possible to reconcile these two “imperatives”?", the author proposes some reflections and personal views, without any presumptions of completeness.

International Conference on Statistics and Related Fields (ICON STARF) The ERA Chair team will organise the International Conference on Statistics and Related Fields (ICON STARF) between 12 and 16 July 2021 at the University of Luxembourg, on Belval campus.It will feature a range of plenary speakers who are experts in the field worldwide, including from the USA, UK, China, Germany and the Dr. Rachel Reckinger spoke at TEDxUniversityofLuxembourg 2020.The event was held online over five days and addressed the topic of climate change. Dr. Reckinger’s lecture was on during the evening session (from 18:30-20:00) on Thursday, 15th October 2020 and included a Q&A. To reach this ambitious goal, Southeast Europe offers great potential for a truly comparative and systematic study. With almost three decades of postwar political life in no less than six different countries and a great variety of war and postwar experiences (civil conflict versus external aggression, emigration versus immigration, defeat versus stalemate versus victory, military versus AI RoboLab. AI RoboLab is part of the Computer Science and Communications (CsC) unit in the University of Luxembourg.We are a group of researchers (faculty and students) interested in creating autonomous behaviours for social and assistive robots. In addition to its academic publications, the RESuME project involves the development and publication of a series of resources that serve to enhance this content and provide useful additional information for readers: biographies with relevant figures, a specialised multidisciplinary bibliography, an interactive chronology and a multilingual French/English glossary.
